Southeast Mexico Outreach Mission and Ministry
In the January parish meeting we passed a resolution to begin a ministry
with our companion diocese of SE Mexico. The ministry team has been
formed, chaired by Betty Hintch, work will begin immediately.
Our first order of business is to speak with Bishop Benito and assess the best
way to initiate this relationship. We also want to determine if one of the
parishes could use some of the vestments we no longer use. Our hope is to
establish a mutually rewarding relationship with a parish in the diocese of SE
Mexico which will enable us to visit and come to know one another and share the
riches of our individual ministries.
Bishop Benito and his wife Angelica of Southeast Mexico Diocese were our guests for dinner this past winter. Parishioners from St. John's in Mount Prospect, as well as members of St. Hilary's, prepared a lovely dinner and enjoyed listening to the Bishop, and Amy Love demonstrate a teaching method for children entitled Godly Play.
Through our efforts of purchasing Bishops Blend Fair Trade coffee and goodies from our Youth Group Bake Sale, St. Hilary's members were able to contribute to the lives of people in Southeast Mexico. Two dollars per bag of coffee sold went to the purchase of three Spanish-language catechisms for use in Southeast Mexico's diocese's spiritual education program. Bake sale contributions were targeted for the Southeast Mexico region through the Heifer organization.
Visit the Commission on Global Ministries for more information on helping the people of Southeast Mexico.
